LONDON ROAD ACTION GROUP

Who we are and why

Surrey CC had chosen to install cycle lanes for the length of the A3100 London Road from New Inn Lane roundabout (ALDI) to the intersection with York Road as part of the Government’s new Active Travel Scheme (ATS).  Advance public knowledge of the design and construction effects on local traffic was scant. When it was finally revealed that this would involve the closure of the northbound carriageway on the London Road for 5 months, there was an outcry about the lack of consultation leading to the scheme’s postponement and a highly-charged and heavily-attended meeting on January 5th 2023.  A group of concerned local residents decided that it was essential that a combined public voice was created to keep the public well informed and to provide a harmonised conduit of concerns back to Surrey CC.  Thus, London Road Action Group (LRAG) was created, not as an anti-cyclist nor anti-scheme group, but to help avoid future public impressions of disenfranchisement. The structure, membership and current network may be found under the ABOUT US heading and latest developments are available on the NEWS UPDATES PAGE.  For contact with LRAG use [email protected] or [email protected] .
